Online

Able Seaman

Who is this course for?​

  • Mariners that already have 180 + days of logged sea time.

How long is the course?

  • 4 weeks online ​

  • In-person exam (the test itself is a  maximum of 6 hours)

 

What do you walk away with?

  • This course will help qualify a mariner to obtain their AB rating on their MMC. That rating can help you get a higher paying job on a variety of commercial vessels around the country.

Note: 

  • Participants will need to complete a Lifeboatman, or Proficiency in Survival Craft course to submit for an Able Seaman with the NMC. 

Content:

•46 CFR 12.405(a) for the “Deck General and Navigation General” and “Deck Safety         and Rules of the Road” exams

•46 CFR 12.405(c) for the “Practical Marlinspike Seamanship Demonstration”

•46 CFR 12.409 “Survival Craft” examination for any endorsement as Able    Seaman restricted to vessels without lifeboats

Entry-Level

Merchant Mariner

Who is this course for?

  • People over 18 years of age, with a desire to pursue a Maritime Career, but have little or no experience.

 

How long is the course?

  • 8 weeks online

  • 2 weeks onboard (room + board included)

What do you walk away with?

  • Ordinary Seaman (OS) document, also known as a MMC*

  • Resume (reviewed)

  • Cover letter (reviewed)

  • TWIC card*

  • Drug test complete*

  • Career Coaching

Marlinspike

Who is this course for?

  • Adults 18 and over that want to have a 2 week long experience onboard the historic Vessel Lady Washington, and would like to become part of the volunteer crew. 

  • Teens, 16 and 17 years of age with guardian's permission.

 

How long is the course?

  • 1 week online

  • 2 weeks onboard (room + board included)

What do you walk away with?

  • An introduction to traditional sailing

  • The opportunity to become a long term volunteer.
